The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has taken measures to prevent fraudulent activities by suspending 1.2% of Aadhaar operators in the last year. The statement released by the UIDAI mentioned that necessary penal action was taken in such cases. The UIDAI has an estimated 99,000-1 lakh operators who enroll individuals and provide other Aadhaar services. The statement also mentioned that the Aadhaar system has been updated with new security features to prevent mischievous operators from misusing the system.
One of the measures taken to prevent fraudulent activities is the implementation of GPS fencing in the enrollment machines. This is to ensure that the operator verifies the credentials of the enrollment machine regularly with the UIDAI data center. Furthermore, the number of enrollments per day per machine has been limited to prevent misuse of the system. These measures are a part of UIDAI’s effort to strengthen the Aadhaar ecosystem.
Another measure that has been taken is to involve state governments in the quality check of all new adult enrolments. This is to ensure that the process is transparent and free of any fraudulent activities. The UIDAI is constantly upgrading the technology and adding new security features to the Aadhaar ecosystem. The statement released by the UIDAI emphasized that it is adding credibility to the Aadhaar ecosystem by strengthening it.
